Historical Background of Joynagar Mozilpur

The municipal city of Joynagar Mozilpur has a long history datimng back to year 1800 when a large "Dhanantory Besher Mela" was organized by the people of this place. Later from 1864 to 1869, worldwide famous writer Sri Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay wrote popular novels like "Durgesh Nandini", "Pathak Tumi Path Aharacicha", "Ai Bandhi Amar Praneswar" and "Bishobrikhya", when he was the Honourable District Magistrate of Joynagar Mozilpur. In the year 1869, Pt. Harananda Vidyasagar, father of Pt. Sivanath Shastri, formed a 'Town Committee' to establish Joynagar Mozilpur Municipality according to the instructions of the District Magistrate, Sri Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. However, the history of this town is also memorized with famous freedom fighter Kanailal Bhattacharya, Scientist Balai Chand Kundu, Pt. Sivanath Shastri and Politician Dr. Bimal Krishna Motilal.
